YOU GO THROUGH THE MOTIONS
You come to the gym but aren’t really focused on doing the exercises as well as you can. You’re half-hearted and don’t push yourself.
YOU TELL YOURSELF YOU’VE DONE A WORKOUT SO YOU CAN HAVE A BLOW OUT
Don’t pretend you don’t sneak off to Sainsbury’s on the way home & have an ice cream now & then! If you put in more calories than you burn off, you’ll still put on weight even when doing lots of classes.
YOU HAVE ‘JUST ONE DRINK’
Then fall off the diet wagon into a kebab. Not to mention the calories in all the other drinks that follow that first.
YOU STICK TO THE SAME ROUTINE
You need to mix it up. Don’t come to my class for a while if needs be – try others. Bodies adapt & you don’t get as many benefits as you get used to exercises. That’s why I don’t do the same routine all the time.
YOU BUY SPECIAL OFFERS
2 FOR 1 choc bars etc. You end up eating both.
YOU ALWAYS DO THINGS YOU LIKE AT THE GYM
Sadly, the things you don’t like - for instance really pushing yourself/ upper body training – may be the ones to give you the best results.
YOU MISS WARM UPS
If you always get to classes late, you miss an essential part of training. Warm ups aren’t just the ‘easy’ bit of class. They’re there for an important reason: to prepare joints & muscles for safe workouts. If you miss the warm up, or come to class, don’t do it & go straight into high impact, it’s at your own risk. You can easily get injured - & then you might not be able to workout when you want to.
YOU BUY A PACKET OF BIKKIES
Promising yourself you’ll only have 1 or 2. Yeah, right.
YOU DON’T EXERCISE SLOWLY ENOUGH
Fast & furious is great for aerobics/ intervals, not strength/ weight work.
